Boy in the stripped pajama's

I found the movie absolutely amazing because it was something that I had never seen before. It was really touching to see the friendship of  Bruno and Shmuel forming into something that was unbelievable. I was also really surprised to see how nice the acting of the two little boys was so good despite their age. We are reading a book in class called Enders Game and the most shocking thing that I find out while I was writing this blog was that the kid who played Bruno is also the kid who Plays Ender and is now 18 years old. Only when I actually searched it up I realized how identical the two looked. His name is Asa Butterfield and he was 10 years old when played the character of Bruno.

The boy in the striped pajamas is set in world war 2, and the story is narrated through the eyes of an 8 year old kid named Bruno. Bruno comes from a very wealthy family as his dad is a commander. He lives in Germany but his family is relocated where is dad is the commander of a prison camp. Bruno is not aware of the fact that there is a prison camp close to where he lives, and a few days later, he befriends a little boy named Shmuel. Both boys become good friends, unaware of the fact that they aren't allowed to talk to each other because  Shmuel is a Jew. Later on in the movie Bruno finds out why he is not permitted to talk to a Jew and that the yard next door is actually a prison camp for Jews.

"The Sniper" Summary

"The Sniper," a short story written by Liam O'Flaherty takes place in the streets of Dublin that have now become a battlefield in Ireland's struggle for independence. A fight between 2 groups; the Free Staters and the Republicans. On a rooftop, a Republican sniper lay watching with his rifle beside him watching for any movement. One small mistake was all it took for his 'enemy' to know where he was. The flare of the cigarette gave way his spot, and from there on, it was war. The 2 snipers were shooting at each other to no prevail until the Republican sniper gets wounded on his arm. The sniper realizes that he must do something in order for him to come out alive. He comes up with a plan, but does not realize the consequences of his decision.

MAIN IDEA: I think what Liam is trying to show is what an impact of war can have on people and how it can transform their way of thinking. It doesn't matter how old you are, if war is breaking out, it does have a impact on everyone and everyone reacts to it differently. A war can effect someone emotionally and mentally. A lot of soldiers from the past wars are still suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. War can have an impact on anyone.
